Juicing for Weight Loss

Is it effective to drink fresh home made juices if you’re wanting to lose weight? This is quite a common question that people are asking today. There’s a widely held perception that fruit causes people to gain weight. We’re told as kids that fruits and veggies are good for us – was this advice wrong?

Fruit Makes You Fat

This video destroys the myth that it’s fruit that makes people fat. Just check out the girl, Freelea and her great physique. She explains that getting into great shape isn’t all that complex. Eat plenty of high quality carbohydrates (in her case fruits), get plenty of sleep ((8-10 hours each night), drink plenty of water (about 3 liters per day) and take regular exercise.

So if you want to start juicing to improve your health and people start to discourage you saying that it’ll make you fat, listen to your heart. Ask yourself if it’s fruits and veggies making people fat or all the meats, dairy and processed foods in our diets?

There’s always going to be detractors saying things like drinking juice for weight loss doesn’t work. It’s up to you how you live your life. I know what I’d rather be doing! I love fresh home made juice and I know for sure it’s good for my health.

Good and Bad Carbs

I think part of the reason that we hear the “fruit makes you fat” argument is that it’s quite easy to get confused over the word carbs (carbohydrates). Yes, fruits are full of carbs. But these aren’t the same sort of carbs that we find in cans of soda or in white bread. Soda is packed full of high fructose corn syrup and the grains (carbs) found in white bread have been stripped of all their nutritional qualities. There are definitely good and bad carbs.

The good carbs are found in things like potatoes (boiled NOT fried), whole wheat bread, whole wheat pasta, quinoa, brown rice and fruits and veggies. These are the sorts of things that we want to be eating for supreme health!

Juice Recipes for Weight Loss

I hate diets that calorie restrict by design. That’s why I don’t recommend that you look for specific juice reicpes that can supposedly make you lose weight. I don’t think they exist! As far as I’m concerned, any juice recipe that you make from fresh fruits and vegetables with your own juicer, is going to be great for your health. As part of improving your health, weight loss – if you have weight to lose – is going to be a natural part of the process.
