Crappy Start to the day

17 06 09 - 22:39 But all's well that ends. Another yummy ancient system this morning. 400 Mhz Pentium 2. Yes, TWO. Haven't seen one of those for awhile, let me tell you. How much faster is a top of the line Mac Pro? Oh, only 45 times faster. Yes, something that a new Mac Pro would do in a day would take her machine 45 days. Yeah, so, not too much. NOT. Stupid thing. Get it all cleaned out and ready to go but, oh look, it won't reach any webpages. I can ping an IP address, and I get DNS servers normally, so something must be interfering with the ability of the machine to talk to the DNS servers. Windows is so great, isn't it? So I blew good old Win2k away and reloaded it. At least it loaded the hardware drivers normally so I didn't have to scrounge around the web looking for them. And wonder of wonders, she actually had a real, honest to goodness copy of Office, that she had the disk and even more amazingly, the serial number for! Really don't see that too much. Her CD drive was also busted and had to be replaced, and she only had 128MB of RAM, so I have her 256 more. "Oh, I can't afford a new machine." Oh, but you can afford cable? And probably a cell phone? And you don't look like you're starving either, so I'm sure if you dropped a few "necessities" you could afford a halfway decent used machine (and by that I mean something made in the last 5 years rather then 15) for fifty bucks or so on craigslist. But, whatever, pay me a hundred bucks if that's more your style, I'll put it to good use, paying off my mortgage or something.

Dropped off Coral Draw 3 to Lou, and oh look, he's hooked up his piece of crap fax machine again because "the numbers were too small" on the other one. Uh huh.

Good thing my next appointment was much later, after that morning one that took me WAY too long. Easy one, though slightly annoying. Many wireless printers have LCD panels that let you punch in the wireless info right on the printer, easy peasy. But this one, no, you have to connect it to the router (on the other side of the room) and then the software transfers the settings. Yeah, that's easier. Oh well, at least it worked out right away, because I, unlike some, know what I'm doing.

Got last weeks comics drawn and shaded yesterday, so I penciled one I need to get done this week. Watched a bit more D. Gray Man and now it's off to bed time.
