Hardly worth getting up
26 06 09 - 19:14 For the piss poor quality of jobs I did today. And then I learned Michael Jackson really did die? I mean, he was a nut, but the man could sing.Anyway, got a dog walked and went over to take care of my Mom's animals. With me so far? No problems. So my first guy is having "trouble" with "skype". More like he's having "trouble" with his "brains". Doesn't inform me that, oh, my road is torn to bits and it's only one way so come from Long Pond. No. I follow my Google Map directions and run smack into a one way street. Now, he's right, and I mean literally, on the end of the street. Do I just quickly zip in there? No... I'll do the "right" thing and follow the detour. I turn onto the now one way street. I get in back of a big truck with a dumpster on the back. And then I sit there for like 8 minutes. There are cars in back of me. I can not see what is going on because this huge dumpster is in my way. Am I stuck forever? Finally we get through, and in total, it takes me fifteen minutes to go down this one little street they've decided to tear up for $10 million dollars. So I get there fifteen minutes late and come in, the guy starts talking to me in some bizarre tongue, perhaps German? So I'm looking at him like he's gone nuts and say "You're going to have to speak English." I've worked for him before, several times in fact, why he started speaking some other language to me I'll never know. So I look at skype, and he's running it on a Mac with a 22" screen. And he has the skype window stretched over all 22" of this thing. The skype program probably uses about two inches on the left side, so 90% of his screen is just white. I put it back to a normal size and he's all like, "Oh, there's my contacts. How did you do that?" Then he had somehow set the audio on his PC skype account to use the modem, so he couldn't, of course, hear or be heard. Total time: Forty five minutes of driving, five minutes actually fixing his "issue".
To be talked at in a foreign language is quite an interesting experience. He was just rattling away, blah blah blah, and you start thinking "Have I gone insane? Why can't I understand this man? I hear him, don't I? I was listening to the radio before, right? Oh, maybe it's him." Unbelievable.
Then over to the accountant. He can't get online, apparently, power went off over there and knocked him off. Weird because the router got an address properly, and the machines could talk to the router, so why couldn't he get online? I just reset the router (hold the reset button in for five seconds) and it was fine again.
So, a whole morning's work which took me all of ten minutes to actually solve but an hour and a quarter of driving. What do I have to show for my efforts? $25. I'm rich now!
Back home to take the dog out. Ate lunch. Checked my email and Sean wants me to come over today. I guess he didn't get the mail that said "No friday, too busy with stuff and have to get up early Saturday, let's do Saturday night instead." Huh. But being the great guy he is, he made that happen for me. Thanks Sean, I take back two, no three bad things I said about you this week!
Went over to Rod's Mother's Place, to do actual real job work type things. Amazing. So another hour of driving under my belt and I'm up to $55! Whoops, I need to make $60 a day to survive. Well, on average, anyway, so no worries. Just frustration. Weird weather today, too. A hail thunderstorm? Very heavy rain (little visibility) then totally sunny, then back to downpours, then hail, then nice and sunny again. Be-zare.
Then to visit my almost 90 year old grandmother, back home to walk the pup (got the mail that said Saturday was okay), ate dinner. Only two more days of pup. Well, one and a half, they come back Sunday. And really, Sunday doesn't count because I don't do anything that day anyway!
Right now I only have one appointment for Saturday, at 10:30. It's in Victor though, ugg. I made it so early thinking I would schedule more for that day. But then a bunch of people wanted next Tuesday instead? Weird.
Think I'll get the next comic penciled now.
Current Mood: Petting a kitty.
