We have it good
05 07 09 - 18:49 "I just can't imagine things getting any better." Anyone who says that doesn't have a good enough imagination. What brought this on? Two words: Michael JacksonOnly in a round about way, of course. With the recent death of Michael I got thinking about Captain Eo, the Star Warish 80s 3D movie shown for quite some time at Disney parks. I thought, it being filmed in 3D and all, that never again would my eyes chance to see it, but lo! "Brain here," said Brain. "There's this website that has just about every piece of video you could possibly imagine, and then some. Bet you it's there. What's it called again?" Immediately I sprang into action, using my l33t ski11s to not only bring up the aforementioned video repository website but searching for said video.
And it was there. Excited beyond knowing, hope blossoming in the barren wasteland of my heart, there was Captain Eo, playing in 2d right on my 17" iMac. It was like christmas had come early, and there, standing there, softly whinnying, was the pony the little girl inside me had always wanted.
Wait, back up, what am I- Little too excited there. Sorry about that. Right, I was watching Captain Eo. The next words that spilled passed my lips may have sounded something like this:
"My GOD this is cheesy!" And it was. But at the same time, it was Captain Eo, and it was good. But with that simple act, new ideas, new thoughts burst upon my very being: "If there's this, then.... no, it's too much to hope. But, but, but, what if.... just what IF... someone filmed.... THAT!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!"
See, awhile back the fabulous Mr. Toad's Wild Ride was shut down forever. This was my favorite ride ever. Along with Splash Mountain. And the Haunted Mansion. And the... you get the idea. So with trembling fingers I typed another search, and was yet further rewarded with more video goodness. Both tracks even. Mr. Toad lives, apart from my memories, where videos do not go to die, but instead, go to be free. Free of boundaries, free of- Sorry, getting carried away again.
Anyway, I must have watched a filmthrough of my old favorite Disney rides for more then an hour. They're all there- Alice in Wonderland, Splash Mountain, the People Mover, etc. Many of them very well done, even. SO. MANY. MEMORIES.
I so want to go back. I always did, of course, the little boy in me never, ever went away, but it's like they're so close I can almost touch them. But I have my memories, and that in itself is a blessing.
Oh, so, the whole point of this? One of the "rides" was the "Carousel of Progress" which basically was a creepy animatronic guy on a rotating stage waxing poetic about how his "newfangled devices" made his life so much easier as they related to different eras from just before the light bulb was invented to "modern times".
"The icebox holds 50 lbs of ice!" Um, okay. So? I only need a couple of cubes for my lemonade you know.
But he would say how things couldn't get better before moving on 30 years into the future where, look at that, things got better! I mean, honestly, look around you- you're living in a sci-fi world as compared to the 1920s. Okay, our cars don't fly, but maybe in 10 years they'll run on pure Hydrogen. You know, the stuff the SUN is made out of? We could do it today, if we stopped fighting these little pointless wars with each other. But that's a whole other posting.
The point is, never say it can never get better because trust me, it can. But don't believe for a minute that things can't get worse either, because you better believe they can.
Otherwise, fun at Sean's last night, played some board games and then some Halo. Today was cleaning and coloring those two comics I didn't work on until the last minute.
Could be slow week? Usually (as I don't answer calls fri-sat) I have three days worth of calls, or like 8-10 to answer on a sunday. Today I only have like five. Summer will do that. I want time to work on Silver Story Editor anyway.
