Told you I was loaded

13 07 09 - 19:59 With berries.

Berries

That container is 7.5" across and 3" deep. Not bad, and there's plenty more to come. I've already had enough to fill this container once.

So saturday I worked on the Story Editor in the morning. Big breakthrough, but not much progress. I have the rain to thank for it. Basically I was going to go over and do yard work for my grandmother in the afternoon. But then it started raining, so I got to stay and work at it longer. It was partially me not knowing exactly how the text boxes worked and partially getting Core Data to do what I want. See, I kept asking the text box "give me your contents". To which it replied "here are my contents". Well and good. But I would make a new page and inexplicably lose the content of the first page. Couldn't figure it out. Finally I worked out that it was giving me a pointer to the contents, not the contents themselves. Kind of like the "shortcut" or "alias" you can make of a file or program in windows/mac respectively. Not the real thing, just something that points to the real thing. This way, if I had three pages, their content would be the same, the current content of the text box. So I had to make a copy of what it gave me and give that to the page, then the page kept it around when I made a second page. It seems to save and load the content, so that's one big hurdle out of the way.

Then it was over to Seans. Not quite as good as last time. I think I know what it is now, too. Random crap Sean comes up with at the last second. See, we were shaking this guy down for information on the whereabouts of another guy, a summoner, who wants to help destroy the world. This guy we're shaking down is wanted for crimes by the Spirit Hunters (of which I am a member). Once we have the information I call them to ask what to do- they say "administer justice". Being the loyal soldier I am, I have no problem with these orders and open a gate to the Demon World in which to do the deed so I don't leave evidence behind. Here's where the random crap comes in. Sean could have said "Okay, there's a clearing" and everything's fine, but no, I run into a forest of carnivores trees. Keep in mind, an "adventure" is supposed to last one session. Maybe two. This is the third night of our adventure, and by this point it looks like it's going to stretch to a forth. So we get bogged down fighting these trees instead of just moving on. Then later we're about to meet this guy we've been trying to find for days and we're walking down this hallway. Again, Sean could have said "you get down the stairs" but no, a bunch of people show up and again, we get bogged down taking them out too. As I contrast this to last time, there was no random crap. We stayed on task, Sean stuck to the plot, we moved forward.
I'm not saying it was a bad session, I'm just saying there wasn't that energy we had the last time. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe it was something else. I've only run 3/4 of a game so what do I know? All I know is that something was different between two times ago, one times ago, and last time. If I can figure out what it is, maybe I can help games go smoother as a player. Because it's not just Sean, it's all of us, working together to have fun. I still have a lot to learn about interacting with people, I know that much, so I'll continue to study the problem like a good scientist.

Sean gave me four of the new Torchwood episodes so I sat and watched them on Sunday. Downloaded the fifth, and final one, that day too. Excellent show, but I don't think even under threat of extermination we would have caved that fast. I think it would have been more like "You want 10% of our kids or you'll kill us all? Fine, let the slaughter begin, because we would rather die as a species then give you even one child." But that's just what I would have said. I mean, they didn't even hide explosives under the floor of the tank? Losers.

Today was pretty quiet. Shopping as usual in the morning. Got a package soon after that with a hard drive for a guy, so got that installed and started installing XP onto it. Then over to see my buddy Lou, then a guy down the street with a so called firefox problem. Which of course I didn't see. And then over to a lady having trouble printing pictures. She was using some Olympus software and it didn't seem like it was letting her choose the paper size. So I installed picasa because I didn't know how they did it either and then the olympus software started crashing whenever I printed something. So I just said, "Yeah, picasa's better anyway, so just use that." Upgraded a couple of programs that needed it, and was back home.

Oddly, I got none, zero, zilch, nada single call today. I haven't had a day with no calls in maybe two years? Three? Weird! So I'll go over to my grandmother's tomorrow, it's not supposed to rain, so I'm sure I'll have some fun. I have four comics to shade and write, think I'll go do that now.

Current mood: Still sleepy from staying up too late friday and saturday. Whoops.
