Once is a fluke.
27 07 09 - 20:51 Twice is a coincidence. Three times is enemy action. So you know that system I've been working on the last couple of days, trying to get Win98 loaded? Well, Win2k but anyway... then I had another system saturday with the same problem? I got a call today about it from another person! Sheesh. But I figured out what it was. I had a suspicion that more fundamentally then just running 98 was the cause of the trouble. But the only things they had in common was win98, zone alarm, and THE DATE. I mean, three systems failing in the exact same way, in the same week? And sure enough when I tried to reload ZA on the system I finally got up and running, it failed in the exact same way again. But, set the date a year back, and everything is fine. So, all this work for basically nothing as the solution is to set the clock back. Now, why it suddenly doesn't like it being 2009 is a mystery, but then, no one expected win98 to be around eleven years later. So there may be some programming assumption that is now not true anymore, causing the issue. At least I can help #3 out over the phone. When I talk to her, as I guess she works nights which is when I call people back. Sigh.Sean's animals survived their first night here.

Well, the two rats belong to Mizzy, but you get the idea. I gave the cockateel a romaine leaf and he really liked it. The rats got uncooked pasta, crackers and peanut butter, carrot pieces, lettuce, dandelion leaves, berries and their normal seed and treat. You come to Hotel Robert, you eat well, at least. Got my shopping done in the morning, then over to my first appointment. Seems her USB port just stopped working because she couldn't print anymore. But moved it over, and it was fine. Weird, doesn't happen often.
Then back home. Finished up the 98 system and brought it back to them. Then ate dinner so I could leave for my 6:30. Don't like to do them that late, but it was just setting up a router. People are always like "you don't need the CD?" and I'm like the CD is for you dummies who don't know anything. Not that you could get it working with the dummies CDs and had to call me anyway, so whatever. (I don't use those exact words)
Seven calls today, ugh. One was a laptop with a dead CMOS battery. Never heard of a laptop with a battery, that would suck. You basically have to tear the entire thing apart, which I am not prepared to do. Why put something you know is going to be replaced in an easily accessible location? Takes all the fun out of it, I know. Two people I didn't reach, otherwise pretty much booked tomorrow. Looking forward to my great, fine, wonderful friend Ellen!
By now Mizzy is recovering from her first day of the Bar and dreading the second as much as the first. Hang in there, Mizzy!
