Pie is gone...

05 08 09 - 20:31 Hope is gone... Well, actually there is one tiny slice left. But that'll be it. No more pie. No more summer. But then it will be time for cider, and I do love cider.

So it's all about finding the positive, right?

But the cost? Oh, the pain I bear for this yummy drink. Fall, which leads to Winter. Winter leads to snow. Snow leads to cursing. Cursing leads to the DARK SIDE.

Love machines, like the first one I saw, that shipped with only 256MB of RAM, and are still running that, this many years later. I mean, talk about plodding along, but doing it for years, and never saying, gee, wonder why my machine's performance is so bad? But at least he did the smart thing at last and got me in there to add some more memory to his pc. And of course he had firefox installed, but what was running when I showed up? IE. *shakes head* Bad boy! Bad! No cookie!

Then came home and ate lunch. Got the system to deliver into the car and went out past Sean's house. Delivered, got stuff moved over, Yipy.

Then back home again to wait for my 4:00. Which was three minutes down the street from me. Just a 6 month checkup. Updated everything, tried to show her how to take a screenshot of a weird error she was seeing so I could see it, but Microsoft, in its wisdom, still relies on people hitting print screen, opening paint, pasting, saving, giving a name, closing paint. I mean, sure, on the Mac it's command-shift-3 or command-shift-4, which is pretty impossible to know without being told, but I can write these three keys down and they can easily be pressed, concurrently, producing the requested result. A screen shot. Oh, sure, there's some kind of weird program you can use, if you have the right "version" of Vista. Too bad she had the "basic" version which I guess means she's not "cool" enough to get the screenshot program. Which brings up a good point: windows7.

Microsoft still hasn't learned its lesson, there's still going to be different "versions" of Windows 7, each with different features. Is it really the best business practice to withhold an easy way to take a screen shot (for example) until you pony up more cash? Personally, Steve Jobs was right on when he said this about OS X:

"The premium version is $129, the business version is $129, the enterprise version is $129, and the ultimate version is $129. We think most users will want the ultimate version."

$319 for the "ultimate" vista? And they say Macs are expensive? Yeah. Even the "basic" version is $80 more then Mac OS X. And with Snow Leopard out next month, it'll soon be $170 more expensive.

Not that anyone actually buys different windows versions, because by the time a new windows version rolls around, the hardware you have is too pathetic to run it. But anyway....

Got through Wednesday, time to tackle the rest of the week with the same style and sophistication that makes me the best all around person in the entire universe! It's true! Because I can't prove any of the rest of you actually exist, but I, by definition, do exist (cogito, ergo sum) the universe is made up of me, so I must be the best thing in it. Just as you are the best thing in your universe. If, as I said before, you exist, which I doubt. Oh sure, it pleases me to act in such a way as to make you believe you exist, but come on, that's just an excuse to keep me entertained while I think up the next universe I want to inhabit. I'm thinking talking ponies might be fun...

Four on tap for tomorrow. Looking forward to a total of one and a half hours of driving, yeah, that'll be great.
