Raining Calls
28 09 09 - 21:21 So we're back to being busy...Took another eight calls during the day today, and then a few more during my hours. It's not that I mind the work, of course, I just hate telling people that "I'm booked until thursday" and it's only monday.
Regular routine in the morning, a quick one down the street and then shopping. Library too, I had been reading the shadowrun book Sean gave me, but I finished it, so it's back to "real" books again. Made lunch and ate it on the way to my 12:30, in victor. Wouldn't boot, just BSOD about some module or another. I really have to remember to do the RAM test first, honestly. He said he had nothing on there so I started the reload. Broke. Ran memtest, and got one little red line almost at once. Took out one chip and it ran fine. Replaced chip with one from my car. Reload. Broke. Ran memory test, showed nothing was wrong. Cleaned CD. Tried again. Broke. Tried another memory module. Broke. Finally just ran it with only the one in there (256MB) and that seemed to do the trick. So it must be the DIMM slot? Uggh. Two and a half hours. So I was half an hour late to my next one.
Which wasn't a problem anymore because all the problems (mouse not working, can't get online) were working just fine. Did a few things though, it wasn't a total waste. Then over to my really odd one.
Most of the start menu icons were just gone. Specifically the "all program" folder icons. The machine booted. Stuff ran fine. But the icons- MIA. That's Missing in Action. And the screen was updating funny. Of course we have no backup, but we did express interest in getting a backup solution, so I took it home and am going to order an external, copy the data off, reload XP, and put the data back on. Never seen icons just vanish before. And why are some still left? That's the really odd part.
So I have six for tomorrow, that should be extreme fun. Four for wednesday with a later held for a call back, and most of thursday booked as well. Should be a fun week.
I hope to get a comic drawn tonight, I don't see any reason I wouldn't, other then my own laziness.
Current Question: Is love the bittersweet taste of orange marmalade on burnt toast? (And if you get THAT reference, you just might be an otaku)
Oh yeah, and it rained today. Then sunny. Then Rain. More sun. Rain. That's where the rain thing came from.
