Why Vertical Masticating Juicers are the Best
If you’re reading this article then you already know about the benefits of juice in your diet. Home made’s the best for shure! There’s all kinds of juicers that we could be using: centrifugal juicers (e.g. Breville BJE510XL), horizontal masticating juicers (e.g. Omega J8006) and my favorites, vertical masticating juicers.
Any juicer is better than no juicer. But the way I see it, the new vertical masticating juicers are the top dogs. I’m going to lay out exactly why. We’ll start off looking at the Pros then move on to the Cons. Then you can make up your own mind. Check it out!
Pros
The juice is best! I’m serious y’all. The taste beats what comes out of centrifugal juicers no problem. So what makes it taste so good? It’s all about how these machines work. Slow juicer technology is what it’s all about. If you think about centrifugal juicers for a minute, they spin way fast. We’re talking 1,000s of RPMs. But masticating juicers go much slower. The vertical machines run at around 80 RPM.
For one thing, this means that it takes a bit longer to make juices. I’ll talk about this more soon. When it comes to quality though, slower speeds count! The faster a juicer works, the more air it forces into the juice it makes. More air = more oxidation = more separation. If you get the chance to drink the same juice made in a centrifugal juicer and a masticating one, you’ll be able to taste the difference. Remember the Pepsi Challenge?
Quality of taste and level of nutrition are two of the main factors I love these juicers. But there’s more. After all, horizontal masticating juicers run at low speeds and make highly nutritious drinks. So what makes the vertical units ‘better’? For me, it’s to do with speed. Not speed of the machines’ RPM, they’re the same. But since the vertical ones have bigger augers and bigger holes to feed in fruits and vegetables, they can make juices quicker.
They’re not as fast as centrifugal machines though. That kind of juicer is the daddy of speed. Vertical masticating models though are a great combo between ‘speed’ and quality. That’s why they’re top dog!
Cons
First of all, there’s the cost. If you take a look on Amazon, you’ll see that they’re not budget juicers. So you’ve got to have a bit of cash if you want one.
Next, is speed. If you don’t have time to spend on food prep then you might be better off with a centrifugal juicer. The way I see it though, there’s nothing more important than my health, so I’m gonna make the time to juice!
That’s about it. Keep on juicing!
